This section provides an overview of transnational education (TNE) data by region.  Please click on the menu on the left hand side to find statistics per calender year. 

We also thought it would be useful to provide you with some general statistics on TNE (2012/13, Source: HESA 2014):

  • The top five source countries for UK TNE provision are Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, China and Hong Kong, with Nigeria and Ghana, in sixth and seventh place (HESA 2014)
  • The majority of learners engaging in UK TNE are first degree undergraduates (76%). Taught postgraduate students make up a further 20%
  • The majority of UK TNE provision takes place outside the European Union (83%).
  • The most common form of provision of UK TNE is partnership with an overseas partner organisation (57%). Other arrangements, including collaborative provision, are the next most common form of provision and  account for a further 22%. Distance, flexible and distributed learning account for (15%), and overseas campuses account for 6%. (doubling since 2009/10)
